Project Description :

On account of our experience in the private sector student accommodation market we were commissioned to re–design an existing scheme prepared by other architects, which had proved to be unaffordable at circa £32k per bed space ( typically private sector student accommodation was being built for £25k per bed space).

The scheme already had planning approval and therefore set a precedent in terms of scale and mass and also the use of materials. We worked closely with the Planning Authority to create a new design that was acceptable to the Authority and affordable by the University.

By careful reconfiguration and rationalisation of the plans, we created an affordable scheme which met the quality aspirations of the Authority whilst maintaining the commercial aspirations of the University.

The final scheme was delivered within budget and completed in 2005.
