This project involved the refurbishment and renovation of a derelict Victorian Cheese Factory in a sought after area of Cardiff. The brief for the development asked for ‘Loft Living’ style apartments to be created with a modern aesthetic that retains and exposes many of the original building features.

Contemporary finishing materials such as frameless glass balustrading, polished aluminium around the kitchens, spotlighting and polished timber floors contrasted and enhanced the existing building features such as exposed brick, steel beams and timber roof trusses.

Rio’s open plan layout strategy for the interior coupled with the apparent sense of light and space created by double height voids & light wells offer the residents a flexible and sinuous living environment, balanced with privacy and seclusion in tight urban surroundings.
