As a charity, Care for the Family requires a high-quality space to be achieved as cost-effectively as possible. Rio worked closely with the existing building fabric to create an exciting and motivational working environment whilst adhering to strict cost and brief stipulations. Care for the Family exists to promote strong family relationships and help those who face family difficulties, as such the space planning of the new facility was critical in ensuring that a suitable workplace environment was provided to enable workers to carry out the varying tasks in a variety of configurations.
In keeping with the company ethos, the overall design was centred around calm, tranquil and domestic interiors to enhance staff wellbeing and give a sense of comfort and safety for visitors. The building is lacking in natural light due to the existing building fabric, this has been maximised through efficient space planning and a sophisticated, bright colour scheme.
Rio took inspiration from Care For The Family’s branding, using a mixture of teals, blues and mints with soft pastel textures to lighten the interior and create a ‘homely’ workplace environment that the company and visitors could both relate to. This helps to strengthen the charity's brand while instilling a sense of place.
The 1700m² of refurbished office space includes staff and visitor collaborative areas, a new entrance foyer to allow for events and networking, a 160-person auditorium, staff training rooms and meeting rooms. The brief also included specialist areas, such as a recording studio and control room. Rio worked closely with a number of the client’s consultants, such as M&E designers, structural engineers and building control to ensure the design aims and expectations were met effectively.
