Heol Y Fran is a small residential development comprising 14 semi-detached affordable housing units on a slender strip of land adjacent to Morriston Comprehensive School.
The sloping site required substantial earthworks to create the plateaus for each plot as well as to limit the impact on the playing fields of the adjacent school. The levels were also designed such that DQR requirements and the need for level access was achieved.
Following detailed discussions with the local authority, the boundary with the school was designed as a living wall to preserve the school’s special environment.
The architecture is contemporary and well proportioned, adopting simple, crisp detailing and robust materials.
